Overall evaluation.

Reflect on the progress they have about positive and negative points?

To reflect on my progress throughout my area within the site-specific and the progress of the group they could have to start with the general idea of swapping. I found out all ideas that was first announced to us as a group that we had decided upon were it each had a great possibility of being something amazing but it came down 23 members of the group myself war and Sophie to decide upon sites and they decided upon my chosen site which was the North Rhine wine bar in the vault. I found out I have to go out and speak to people but luckily enough the owners are personal friends of mine so it didn't make it that difficult for me but when it came to research I found that I have to go out and ask people arm for our information about the building are going to the museum the archives of Swansea the Civic Centre library plus using the Internet and to guys altogether didn't find much information but I did make that jointly to she speak to these people as I am quite nervous person in public and I think I did this quite well and I think that this project has helped me give myself more confidence to actually going out and speaking to people in the community which I found most of them were willing to help. I think positive way to look at this exhibition is that hit has given me more confidence to speak to people and that am been able to experience something like this is it is amazing for myself and De Nero to have the opportunity to work with people within my class that I would never have naturally teamed up with and I've found that the people that I was grouped with actually were very knowledgeable about certain things are very helpful in research arm statements understanding and just throwing ideas at me that I could do for my Pacific area and I found that extremely useful arm side of it all for me personally is the fact that even know we gone quite well as a group there were a few group issues with stubbornness arm people not willing to change their sort of outcome on the idea disapproval to be a quest rest will fall on to other members am I personally try to stay as mediator did not really want to get involved because I could understand both points but this was easily overcome by compromising with each other to work and I think that's riddled about unable to compromise and obviously if there was something important that we really necessary thought that we wanted or needed in our work then we try to support each other as much as possible in their ideas and I think that works really well and another man negative to the idea is that a few members of the group or two members of the group I very rarely showed up are merely one member I should say I really showed up this proved to be very annoying for the rest of us a very frustrating arm offices understandable when we do group so wherefore when he was coming into the group he didn't know where we will act so you had very little in part personally into the project itself and process of it I do find this quite annoying and at a negative to project itself. But I think the finalists overcome this quite well and we were able to sell side of differences to create an amazing atmosphere and experience for the viewers who came to see our site-specific work.


With hindsight what would you do differently?

What would I do differently think about what I would do differently arm I think I I've proven that in my work when I've done differently to my creative side as well as our thought process are a began with armed the idea of creating a limbo our book within a peak sculpture with our talking with lecturers I found out it was over complicating things and that it needed peace simple as for how can I do this simple but have such a good effect and that was to are then I created at the waiting room with help of lecturers am I think personally if I was to do it differently Ah but if we had the same theme I think I probably would have done the same thing over again and the only things I would have probably done differently would be maybe experiment a little bit more with some different furniture within the space and maybe explore a bit more in my area to wear a position things a little better but and even then that abuts because I think the way I positioned it worked quite well as in the VAT of coming twit to a certain stop on the linking out but I do think now thinking of it that people got quite distracted with arm Jordan Thomas is are peace so I think if I could do as it definitely doesn't the same power from experiment more with furniture but I think I would have popped up a kitten so they wouldn't be able to see that I think Google would been some think else would have created another room and locker room right through when I think I would Dunlap of whether seating area was down to stop them from been so distracted by his work and his performance and Leighton then fall creating another altogether when it within a space which I think been really effective so I think that's only difference I really would have done arm maybe I would have actually brought in a proper computer and old health 19 at computer to start pushing that fine line of your notes in the past and people are coming from the present and the kind of transition think I probably would have done as well if I wouldn't say of had more time but if I had the means to transport the change and the computer Duffy would have experimented little bit more is anything i can really think of.

How does this experience in package your creative practice?

This experience has impacted my creative process in many different ways has made me think more about health and safety which personally I don't do enough of am in in all sorts of matters I don't do because I liked work alone our most the time a daily risk it is possible to myself if that an unfortunate okay with that and it shouldn't be an mouthing this is helped me to understand I shouldn't be okay with that it. And this is also impacted my personal practice because and another had a problem with working in a group I've always been a group player knows I'm quite hands-on I try to be extremely helpful with people they try to do that and encourage people in my group to do what they needed to do experiment with everything Are just pushing them to do everything that they possibly could do  so I think from this process of working with a team I think I found out that I am a good leader that I was a leader I would say my friend all was group leader by was his confidant I would push him to push them and am able from that I found out I'm very good at encouraging people to do what they needed to do and that for me personally says a lot about working with others. And given me a lot of confidence being able to go out and talk to people and given my email address and have to am there are Crossly have a conversation going on between the boss is the management of bar staff constantly have to tell what were doing would be down to me arm along with the research and trend finding more information setting up meetings that was all again left Anthony I found that I'm click until the phone and in person I'm a little with a little more neither am I think my may mean up brawl on my full process is how that might group very am enthusiastic about my idea and they give me a lot confidence go ahead with it and the day were very you should do this this this would work tried less have a look at that and I think without the people in my group I don't think that my call waiting area scenario would have been as good taking positive criticism is another thing that I think has helped my creative process to be able to do this another our area that I think that I've been able to look into line and experience son and quite enjoy athletes was they advertise month I quite enjoyed making me poster even know it wasn't selected adult remind the poster that we chose that worked and just been a part of that having a creative flow into that with the group and the fact that we keep up something so good back again and are having that but that's lingering there with the advertiser am which is somewhere I think I'd like to be interested and. Found that I'm not actually that bad at installation and work which I think is a good thing that I'm not and am I could possibly in the future may think about for further exhibitions to installations am is a possibility won't rule it out it did not  like get and to appoint – quite enjoyed it a lot easier than I thought that it would have been tightened as the a lot of big thumbs up for myself and I think that this entire project has boosted every part of my ego arm in terms of how it went how to do it again that the process that is giving me that the understanding of others and helping me find a part of myself as well is finding out that I'm actually a possible good team leader as well am that really that that is of a confidence boost and I think that is what this means project is about as a confidence boost to top Feeney arts and forging as its confidence to go out there meet the community find out what you can find out be a part of the community that you living I'm giving some thing to them that they can enjoy and it'll be worth it in the end I do think that it's something that helps you grab your bearings and helps you with your fellow classmate and help their money also think it helps groups of people within your course to get to know each other better can I found I gone really well with all of them am and that for me is personal win for this entire project that I've made for new friends that I hope you're still in a couple of weeks still be able to talk like we did before and also  another point to a  future reference really arm because my a group that I was in was so honest with me but without being too critical to blunt I think I know sometimes need it for my work to understand if an localities within understanding my work that the people I was talking to you is another love the idea of without them I don't think what are reached at or would be able to fulfil its potential as well as I did without them and that I'd like to say our great thanks to my should my  group because without my group the exhibition wouldn't of been such a success without them and I hope that they feel the same way with me.

My 2 day experience of the abyss exhibition.

Day two

The second day of the exhibition didn't feel as near bus in fact if I am to be honest I wasn't looking forward to it because I know personally that we would get Stranglers and it would be a long day not like the day before where time to seem to skip so quickly. We opened at 11 and we didn't get anyone through until 12:15 which I personally knew would happen. I try to keep myself occupied by actually writing how I was feeling in the space at that time became difficult because of the sound and I was getting distracted quite easily. But by 1 o'clock we had a flood of students that came running throw doors I had personally been told that people had told them that they have to see our exhibition space again displayed me feel quite big headed that people liked a work so much. Myself and my group decided instead of take a two-hour break as we did the day before that we would split outbreaks up into half-hour throughout the day this would give us time to go for a cigarette all to the toilet Something to eat or even just to turn the sound off because it became so nauseating to listen to for so long. We had a gentle flood but we eventually did die for half-hour which seemed to drag fraternity guy thinks quite funny considering that is what we were trying to create in the vault. But by 3 o'clock we had picked up for a quickly where we had 10 students20 minutes. I found that having students and people inneed the time go quicker and found that a number and spent an hour within our exhibition. I decided a one point to actually interact properly with the members of the student society who coming into our exhibition at them personally how they were feeling about our work I had number of positive responses from students and the main word that was frequently used when I spoke to eat of the students was “it was outstanding” but talking to a few other students they felt quite scarednow I personally know that it wasn't our aim to scare anyone but at the same time be slightly proud of that as well because our work was quite dark and devilish to the pain we could see we were worshipping daemons and I think the effect of Ole’s work really tied all our pieces together creating such an amazing experience down then the vaults that we had completely Nutley transformed that space. By 5:10 we had decided to close we had been quiet almost 2 hours and that we had had enough. So that's what we did all in all out of the people that had come down the stairs of hell we had had 102 souls that pending in limbo that travelled through all our space and then was released back into the world which I think is an impressive number of people to have visit our exhibition. From less then we had a short break away from the noise turned on the lights breaking up the darkness's mind on each other as we were so proud and then realised that we then have to take our exhibition down. I personally couldn't wait to tear down my area which took me 10 minutes tops to do because by the second day I want to deceit gone which is a hell of a difference considering the first day I loved it to the second day I hated it in such short time of 12 hours I can't explain it and I don't really understand why but I was quite glad when we have to turn down our exhibition which took us almost 3 hours to do. I feel that one to my members of my group were asleep set that we have to deal at the same time could understand that we couldn't do that every day.

Overall I think the two days were a massive success we had 102 people visit our exhibition we had so much great feedback from the public and students that had ventured down into our own personal hell is that we had created. And it was then an amazing experience personally for myself, I feel that it has opened my eyes to other ways of thinking and to be more open to suggestions and I thank my group for that very much in all in all just an amazing experience to have and to have such an awesome group.

My 2 day experience of the abyss exhibition.

Day – 1

The first daily exhibition we arrived at the North same wine bar at 10 o'clock as a group to just go over some final detailing like checking and sound effects. This also give us chance to make sure that our space was to our liking and that we were ready to prepare and be opened to the public. as I personally sat there as first space that you entered as you came down the stairs of Purgatory I had all sorts of mixed feelings just before we opened a narrow opening time was 11 AM. Which are praising the almost immediately provoked then we had many students come into our exhibition this seemed overwhelmed because of the sound and the darkness that they were walking into I myself was deathly feeling the pressure and the needs of heart in to speak to these people. I gave them a clipboard and on the clipboard with sheets are categorised name date time email address and signature I asked him to sign in, first they seemed a little confused and I even had one person ask if this was the exhibition, differently told under the yes it was and it was a part of the exhibition space. This made me feel very near us in my first fear the people wouldn't grasp the idea of my work. But they did so and sat down and I could see them pouring through my magazines and as they looked around they seemed slightly overwhelmed about what was surrounding them. After the first four people had come through our doors I felt slightly more at ease and quite surprised how many people were willing to give me as much information as I had asked for my contact sheet. As time went on by at 1145 we had had 17 people in I personally was chuffed at the amount of interest that we had for our exhibition but by 11:45 I became extremely near us knowing that my lecturers were on their way. By 10 to 12 hour lecturers were coming through the door, instantly needs correcting stress panic among other emotions how they would react to MySpace alone never mind the rest. But the pit of my stomach I knew that our exhibition worked well because we all led on to each other's spaces mine was the waiting the approach of death and confessing your sims with a timely and almost wanting sound that get killed through the hall and that's how I saw our exhibition space. So I calmly handed my clipboard and to the lecturers and asp into signing and once they had signed in hiding calmly told them that they needed to take seat within the waiting area. Once again panic as I saw my lectures leaning in to have a look at the magazine covers that I had placed within MySpace as they were planning are part I felt an almost immediately need to go over asked them not to but I contain myself in panic and stuck to reading my books that were on my desk. From there then I ascertained that they could move on and experience the rest of the exhibition as they walked past me a sale relief. After they had had a look around the entire exhibition they gather dust and asked if we could go upstairs and have a quiet word panic once again thinking that possibly we had done something wrong or that they disliked it. But it was only a short interval where they asked us a few questions aboutand if we think that it worked and we will also pulled up on a few health and safety and location issues, where it was pointed out that it may become difficult for students to actually locate the exhibition from there then we put up a few more posters outside of the bar come into the bar and at the top of the stairs where the exhibition was problem solved. The second issue that was brought up was there were no warning signs about the stairs with stairs had had rubble on them which was to give that 80 feeling of adding to the atmosphere that they were coming into which I'd make sure that there were no physical stones on the actual steps to norm would hurt themselves but there was no warning which is a hazard so we also quickly created a sign that we stuck at the top of the stairs and at the door stating warning caution of stairs which then I felt more comfortable about. The lecture seemed quite happy overall of our work and then moved on to the next exhibition. By 1:30 we had had a complete summary of 40 people come into a exhibition space. As time went on I felt more and more comfortable speaking people and tell them what to do and it was surprisingly how fast time actually flew by. But by 2 o'clock myself and my group decided that we needed a break purely because the atmosphere the cold and because of Ole’s sound that was echoing around the vault that we could not take it any more. Which I think is a good thing that we had created such a strong atmosphere dogma once we had come upstairs it was a whole different thing the light sort of the reality that we were facing of the spaces were completely different and myself personally and I know within my group we were quite happy that we had accomplished one of our main goals. We went back again by 3:30 to continue on with our exhibition by this point I must admit I was very tired but was still hoping for more people to arrive and exhibition. In my personal area I found a number of people with asthma in the time we would tell them that I did not know the time which I had made sure did not work but found a number of people were looking at their phones. And also while sat down there feelings as people that visited our exhibition I noticed a number of them took a number of the leaflets to understand work which again myself and my group were quite happy with and that is quite diffuser students that came understood my work and quite happily looked through the magazines which I think really did help them grasp a little better what they were doing sitting in a waiting room. And also I noticed that I have mentioned before in number of posts that high have decided to our display to magazines on the chairs in forcing the people to look at the titles to help them understand the space but with the cup diet placed into MySpace was either moved or sat upon, and must omit this did annoy me slightly but it made me aware how people can be so arrogantly blind to the simplest things in their surrounding areas. I think I can only account for three people that actually sacked on the other side to the coat and realising that the space had been taken. By 5 o'clock I was extremely tired and so was my group we had chosen to close by 5:30. Thanks to my signing in sheet we were able to carry up how many people throughout our first day of our exhibition had come through our doors and worked out as 62 people had visited our exhibition space and when I had to hold my group this they were static and personally saw Zoe that our first day we had had Sony people and to the point where we had three students came back three times and each time brought more people with them because they personally loved our exhibition so much and that for me meant that we had exceeded at the site-specific project and myself are my group had worked very hard to create this hellish atmosphere they think that we did so well and I must admit that I am personally sinning by being proud of myself and I know my group are as well.

My final decisions of My Space.

This is an image of what you would see as you came down the stairs of purgatorie, a simple waiting-room that doesn't affect the decor of the space. This I did intentionally, because I find when I enter a lot of waiting rooms very often the furniture dose’nt really fit the decorum of the room. I wanted to create this in my space which I think I did quite well. The chairs came from university and so did the table with the magazines are located on the left-hand side of the image. I place my coat within the space an also placed two magazines on two of the chairs this was to split up the space as you can see in the image above. I purposely did this to see if people would avoid sitting there or would they move the items. The magazines also have a different purpose of being placed on the chairs this was to encourage the public to pick up the magazine, which I had covered the front of with different references to limbo, dying, death, badness in the world and beliefs this was in hoping that this would help them understand or grasp what I was trying to project within my work.
 
 
This image above isn't of great quality but is just to show what I used to reference limbo within my work. I picked up 10 magazines from a free book store which were more than happy to help and then I went online and found different publications of magazines from years since gone, and all of these have some sort of reference to Limbaugh or life and death. As you can see there are things like time is rethinking Heaven, the soul, Passion limbo, death is the host, too busy to die, the death wish, national geographics about the poor and also 2 newspaper articles. one is within the image but the other was not which I found quite interesting, it was a paper article that was disclosed a few years back with a frontline states “limbo does not exist says pope” which I actually used on my reception desk. When I thought about having these hints to limbo I didn't want to be in your face with titling but I found that may be a slight hint to limbo would help them grasp the idea of my waiting-room.


This image above is of the reception area that I decided at the last minute to add into the space. I did it because I felt that there was something about having a receptionist that made it that much more real not only to myself but for the public. I want to play a part in my work where I am the receptionist and there for telling the pending souls that come down to me that they would have to wait until I tell them to move along. I will ask them to sign in on the clipboard that you can see within the image with there name, date, time, email address and signature this gave it a more realistic narrative on the workings of the idea about registering yourself into a place where you would spend eternity. I want to then make the public weight up to a minute and a half to 2 minutes in the waiting area, witch I think that this would help them come accustomed to what is happening around them. Also you can see on the desk is my laptop so I would look busy along with two books that were opened and turned to certain pages which referenced aloneness and the human body and brain, therefore It would look like I am researching the human soul. There's also a wilting flowers on the desk that are very dusty and look dreary of colour and life, I think it would help me to signify the timelessness and the depth of the place. Alongside that is a candle which I will not light because health and safety, it is next to a plastic flower which is flammable so I will choose not to light the candle. An then finally I would have the leaflets on show on the deck witch I then will stock upon throughout the exhibitions.


As an overall look through my space witch is small an very simple, I feel that I have added plenty of references to limbo and the act of death within my installation. I think that it will work really well and the simple act of adding a reception will be a clearer way for the people to understand that they will be waiting. My only fear is that people would not grasp this concept that I am trying to create a space in time with no really physical form that limbo’s exists only in our minds therefor becomes the beginnings of the descending into the abyss. I just hope that the public understand that the waiting room has a significant to the exhibition.

 
 

The leaflets

In this image above you can see that this is the front of our leaflet. It is a very simple and yet select decision of choice colours for our leaflet, poster and summons. We stuck with the black-and-white drawing this reference to our site more or less gives you a feel of the space that you would be entering. On further notice there is only one colour that was added to the leaflet which red. The red was to reference the colour of the space but unfortunately the room was painted but we felt that the red really worked with the leaflet and the fact that it was so claim and slight colour was just enough.
 
Within this image you can see that is is the back of the leaflet, which is a very simple drawing of what the layout of our space would look like. Then at the bottom written in red is the numbers 1 to 5 in the names of the members of our group. This is a simple little reference to the exhibition spaces that you would be visiting, in an order which so 1 would be myself as I was the first space you would enter, then it was Jordan Thomas who was located at side of me, then 3 and 4 was a collaboration between Charlotte Clothier and Sophie Mccabe in the joint space and finally 5 was Ole Nesset which his was an audio that was played through out all our spaces.
 
This image above is the inside of the leaflet which you would find our artists statements from each person in the group. We wrote a small bit of infomashion about our work to give the public a glimpse into our ideas to help them to understand the concept that we were trying to portray in all of our works. I thought that this leaflet in general worked really well to our exhibition and it was well produced by the group collaboration of many discussions about the leaflet, posters and summonses. This was the final outcome to our final agreement on what our advertising for our exhibition would be.

The summonses

Within this image you can see above, is a summons that we wrote. All together there was six letters one for each lecturer witch, they found in their cubbyhole at University. The handwritten summoned asked them to accompany us on the 18th and 19th of November at the No sign bar to experience our exhibition.  I feel that this was a great way to invite our lecturers to our show. The letter itself had been teabag to give it old rusty ethics feel witch I think tided into the posters and leaflets really well. The letter itself was hand written by one of the group members Charlotte who then wrinkled up the summons and then folded it back out to give the letter a timely field to it. Once the letter had been wrote we then placed it into a very old cream styled textured base envelope, which then was sealed with candle wax and then stamped with a mark of a letter. This letter was a D which referenced to the Divine comedy which was what we bassed our exhibition around.
When reading the letter or the summons it reads quite daunting and disturbing in the way that the words lead you in, but it works so well into our exhibition. If you cannot make out from the image above its stats …

We regret to inform you that you have been summons to attend a meeting with the inferno beginnings of the ninth circle. Your appointment is for the Tuesday, 18th November and you can find your way to our quarters underneath a non-advertised location on wind Street it has no sign and it is in a rather distinguished building with a history imeared with sinful spirits.

Chosen poster

 



As you can see there are images above are the devilments to the finished poster. We were experimenting with different fonts and colours scheme’s to see what works better and also where the text would go. The image it selves where drawn by a gourd member Ole. Where he tried to combine all of our work into one idea, which I liked the idea but I don’t think that at this point that the poster dose our work any justice.
The poster represents most of our groups work but there is one or two thing I don’t see. The black tunnel was to reposed to Charlie’s work where she is now no longer working within that space with a different idea as well. Sophie is the smashed mirrors found on the bottom of the poster that stay the same. There is no refereed to Jordan’s work ols of my own even my ideas has changed. And the red is to present the walls of the vault which have been now painted.

As you can see from the image above that a few changes have been made to the poster, like the style of writhing, the surrounding area is no longer white it is now been tea stand. And a red splitting of paint which has been hand done has been added to this poster. I am not innately convents that this is the best that we could create for our exhibition. But with time moving on it was a group decision to go ahead with this poster.

This image shows two posters side by side showing small different to each poster. first poster one which in on the left hand side is all white with small detailed and I find it more effective and a white porter then the tea bagged one. The second poster on the right side has been tea bagged with added texture to give more depth to the work but personal I feel that this has been slapped together. I will it was desired without my known that the secondary poster was chosen because of the texture which has now been posted around the university already.

This image above you may have seen earlier on in my blog. We were adverted to use this space to help intrudes the public owe exhibition and at the same time they would have a quite understanding of the theme chosen.  So we decided on where the posters are on the left hand side of this image above we are going to show  5 different verses from the book donates inferno. Which as you can see in the image beside would look something like this, but once the bored are the wall hopeful they will take a different take on the viewers.

Would also like to say that even it was a group decision to use this space in the way we have, it was all down to one member who take it on himself to create the poster and had them printed out as well so a big thank you to Ole for taking on that responality.




Experimenting with the idea

 Images below I captured on my phone. 
The first image is to give you an idea of the space and where I hope to work when the time of the exhibition. With help form 3 other in my group, who were helping me that day. We set out an ideal outcome of what I would like my Ares to look like. Doing so I used the softer that where in the vault as the seating area for me, also used a coffee a table that was there. I also run around no sign seeing if I could find old papers and flowers just to add on the idea. This is a very simple set up just so I could give my lectures some idea of what I hope to achieve within the space. They were very entrenched of my take on the ideates of heaven and hell and working with limbo as a waiting room. My letches give me some useful ideas hope I could make my idea more affective within this area. Such as not using the sofa’s from no sign but office like chairs which I had already decided upon before they had advised. An maybe to add some hint’s into my work that are to do with limbo and this idea of timeless.

Cornelia Parker

 


Cornelia Parker, Cold Dark Matter - An Exploded View, 1991, Installation view
 
Cold Dark Matter: An Exploded View consists of a garden shed and its various miscellaneous contents, which have been blown up by the army. The exploded shed is suspended from the ceiling of the gallery with a single light source at its centre. The various pieces of shed and contents are hung as if in mid-explosion in the shape of a cube (4m x 4m x 4m approx.) The central light source of the piece casts shadows of the miscellaneous fragments across the gallery walls, heightening the dramatic dynamic of the work.

The work parodies the Big Bang; the beginning of the universe as a bench experiment in a garden shed. From the initial blast, matter flies out in the form of the shed’s everyday contents. This constellation of domestic appliances, sporting equipment, household objects, gifts and purchases are not exactly examples of the pinnacle of human development and civilization, but are at least a part of its copious inventiveness and folly.

Cornelia Parker was born in Cheshire in 1956 and lives and works in London. She studied at Gloucestershire College of Art and Design, Wolverhampton Polytechnic and Reading University.

Artist olafur eliasson

Described as a "stress-test of Louisiana's physical capacity" the installation by Olafur Eliasson, part of an exhibition titled Riverbed, is a staged imitation of a natural landscape within the walls of one of Denmark's important Modernist buildings.

Occupying a site on the sea shore in Humlebæk, north of Copenhagen, Louisiana was originally designed in 1958 by architects Jørgen Bo and Wilhlem Wohlert and has since had seven extensions and alterations carried out by the same architects.

"Since the beginning of the collaboration it has been clear that a solo exhibition of Eliasson's work at Louisiana would inevitably be a radical, site-specific exhibition dealing with the reality of the museum as an institution and physical locality," said a statement from the museum.
"Movement through the space at Humblebaek has always been at the heart of the experience – the architects have made sure of that, and Eliasson wishes to profile this as the most important feature in Louisiana."

Visitors can walk on the rocky surface, which slopes up towards the sides of a series of rooms that make up the museum's south wing. A narrow path running through the spaces has been filled with water to recreate the trickle at the bottom of a dried river.

At the top of the south wing, a library has been created to house a collection of Eliasson's art books – including a new publication produced for the exhibition featuring landscape photographs of Iceland from 1986 to 2013 – and digital screens to provide access to his online archive.

Eliasson has also created a series of geometric models with Icelandic artist Einar Thorsteinn to add to his Model Room, which has been in progress since 2003 and will be hosted in the museum's north wing during the exhibition.

The building's main hall will show three video works – a portrait of Berlin called Innen Stadt Aussen from 2010; an exploration of a Chinese garden in Suzhou through movements created by choreographer Steen Koerner titled Your Embodied Garden filmed in 2011; and Movement Microscope, a 2013 movie that follows a group of dancers in Eliasson's own studio.

Moving on from “Angle” the documentary tapped into Mark Wallinger installations, in this case “Prometheus” (1999) a two part installation that includes both video installation, objects, and image. What I liked about “Prometheus” was the reference to “Night of the Hunter,” depicted by a pair of huge fist with the words LOVE and Hate written on then which happens to dominate the walls in the exhibition space. Obviously drawing parallels from the preacher in the film “Prometheus” plays around with the ideas of god and death. An execution chair is stuck to the wall while a huge write ring buzzes in the foreground framing it. A birds eye view is created giving you God’s perspective.
Honestly I didn’t entirely understand “Prometheus,” but liked it for its quirks such as the “Night of the Hunter” reference for example. What I did found interesting was after the documentary when Leah my tutor was discussing the piece and pointed out how the metal ring that made the buzzing sound related to aura in the sense of energy and wave lengths. Especially in how Mark Wallinger used electricity to create energy and more importantly sound.

Wallinger's JC was the only work in competition at Venice that actually had something to say to the city. His Christ could have stepped out of a 15th-century painting. Ecce Homo looked powerful in the British Pavilion, and would have been a moving sight in St Mark's Square.
Wallinger's double eccentricity - displaying something as culturally specific as the Tardis and as accessible as a statue of Christ - reflects the two sides of British art. When historians assess the British art boom of the past decade, what will they say? That it was great art? Even good art? In the end, this does not matter so much as the fact that these artists attempted to break out of the ghetto of contemporary art, its introspective waves of fashion and spurious adulation of this or that inflated artistic name, and speak to a real public about real things. Maybe the means used were crude, the themes melodramatic, but art has gained a public voice here.

The Nantes Triptych was originally conceived as a commission for the Centre National des Arts Plastiques in France, to be shown in a 17th century chapel in the Musée des Beaux Arts in Nantes in 1992. Viola has taken the form of the triptych, traditionally used in Western art for religious paintings, to represent, through the medium of video, his own contemporary form of spiritual iconography. The three panels of Viola's triptych show video footage of birth (on the left), death (on the right) and a metaphorical journey between the two represented by a body floating in water (in the centre). The footage used was not originally shot for this particular project. The birth was inspired by the birth of Viola's first son in 1988 (although it does not depict his son's birth) and was filmed at a natural childbirth clinic in California. The artist has used this footage in several works. The floating body in the central panel was filmed in a swimming pool for an earlier work, The Passing (1987-88). Viola filmed his mother as she lay dying in a coma in 1991 as a means of confronting her death artistically. The three passages are accompanied by a sound-track of crying, water movement and breathing in a 30-minute loop. In this compacted space birth and death eclipse the dreamy suspension which represents, in the central panel, the thinking, active human life. Here it is not life's journey which is important, but its beginning and end.

Beetlejuice

 There is the waiting room (and really most of the afterlife) in Beetlejuice. In Marvel comics, Limbo is a plane outside time, ruled over by a future version of Kang the Conqueror called Immortus. Harry’s post-death King’s Cross in Harry Potter has elements of Limbo, as does the Void space in Doctor Who.

Limbo isn’t an official Catholic doctrine, and it never really was. But it’s fascinating to see how far reaching a religious concept can be—especially to the point where it has basically lost its religious connotations and is understood by pretty much anyone you talk to, regardless of affiliation or belief.


Pop Culture Limbo: I’ll just… wait here, then.


 
You’re probably aware of the idea of Limbo. No, not the party trick. The concept of a place of eternal waiting. Not very good, not very bad. Just… not much of anything, forever. Here’s the technical religious definition:

“NO NEGATION OF BAPTISM”

The document stressed that its conclusions should not be interpreted as questioning original sin or “used to negate the necessity of baptism or delay the conferral of the sacrament.”

Limbo, which comes from the Latin word meaning “border” or “edge,” was considered by medieval theologians to be a state or place reserved for the unbaptized dead, including good people who lived before the coming of Christ.

“People find it increasingly difficult to accept that God is just and merciful if he excludes infants, who have no personal sins, from eternal happiness, whether they are Christian or non-Christian,” the document said.

It said the study was made all the more pressing because “the number of nonbaptised infants has grown considerably, and therefore the reflection on the possibility of salvation for these infants has become urgent.”

The commission’s conclusions had been widely expected.

In writings before his election as Pope in 2005, the then Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger made it clear he believed the concept of limbo should be abandoned because it was “only a theological hypothesis” and “never a defined truth of faith.”

In the Divine Comedy, Dante placed virtuous pagans and great classical philosophers, including Plato and Socrates, in limbo. The Catholic Church’s official catechism, issued in 1992 after decades of work, dropped the mention of limbo.

Limbo has never been part of any official Catholic doctrine, although it’s been taught to Catholics for centuries. I first learned about it from Dante, who visits Limbo (located outside the gates of hell) in the Inferno. Dante places well-known, respected historical pagans like Socrates and Plato in Limbo, but argues that righteous Biblical figures like Abraham were plucked from their eternal condition by Christ when he descended into hell following the crucifixion.

As I want to create a waiting room in my site to reference this modem culture idea of limbo, I now need to look at the ideas of waiting room’s that drains you as you set there waiting to be seen. Like the timeless clock that doesn’t seem to move.
 


From that torment of waiting your drown to the magazine’s to see if time will pass any faster, you found yourself reading an article that was published 10 years ago, Feeling like that your stuck in this time pereaied that had a hold of the building.
Or you consider that rank smell of the room, that always have that dentistry smell to the place that just seem to worm there lining hands up your nose makes your nose twang. Yet the men and women seem amuned to its stitch. What makes its worse is that a member of the reception will bring in flowers to lighten up the place but they become neglected and wither and dead, the odder of the stagnant water seems to leave its own denting smell within the room.
By this points your itching to exit and that’s when you see that exit sign that’s when it screams at you get out! Run! But you don’t you stay till your seen and that seem to be a sadness that lingers over our humanity.


Define Limbo

Word History: Our use of the word limboto refer to states of oblivion, confinement, or transition is derived from the theological sense of Limbo as a place where souls remain that cannot enter heaven, for example, unbaptized infants. Limbo in Roman Catholic theology is located on the border of Hell, which explains the name chosen for it. The Latin word limbus, having meanings such as "an ornamental border to a fringe" and "a band or girdle," was chosen by Christian theologians of the Middle Ages to denote this border region. English borrowed the word limbus directly, but the form that caught on in English, limbo, first recorded in a work composed around 1378, is from the ablative form of limbus, the form that would be used in expressions such as in limb, "in Limbo."

In Limbo Inception

With research to my new developing idea to create a waiting room to represent limbo, I stated to look possible films that have taken a different approach the this everlasting conundrum. With that I found a trailer to a 2010 film called Inception where the main actor is Leonardo DiCaprio. Many people may of head many things about this film but I personally think that it is one of the best takes on the subconhes mind that is been out there so far. 

Regardless of whether Limbo exists or not, or who is or isn’t in it, the concept has meshed itself into pop-culture enough that even a non-religious person will know what you mean if you say that something is “in limbo” There are plenty of value-neutral post-death waiting places in pop culture.

Inception’s worldbuilding focused heavily on the concept of Limbo, actually including a final dream-level called Limbo as a major plot point. This realm is a universal location into which any dreamer who goes too deep or dies in the dream gets funneled. Once there, time moves infinitely faster than it does in the waking world. It’s hard to keep hold of yourself, and without outside interference, you can grow old and die without ever waking up from the dream. This isn’t a remotely religious limbo, but hey—they could have called it anything. Calling it Limbo was an intentional and evocative choice, because it carries cultural significance.

In the theology of the Catholic Church, Limbo is the edge or boundary, a referring to the "edge" of Hell, the idea about the their being an afterlife condition of those who die in committing the sin's without being assigned to the Hell of the Damned. Limbo is not an official doctrine of the Catholic Church. Medieval theologians, in western Europe, described the underworld as ("hell", "hades", and "infernum") Limbo of the Fathers or Patriarchs, and Limbo of the Infants.

  • In the Divine Comedy poem Inferno, Dante depicts Limbo as the first circle of Hell. The virtuous pagans of classical history and mythology inhabit a brightly lit and beautiful—but somber—castle which is seemingly a medieval version of Elysium. They include Hector, Julius Caesar, Virgil, Electra, and Orpheus. Virtuous non-Christians, such as the Muslim Saladin, were also described as among its residents.
  • In the Artemis Fowl series, "Limbo" is the timeless plane of existence where the demon fairies are trapped until The Lost Colony.
  • In the film Inception, Limbo is a deep subconscious level, far beyond false awakening, and a state in which the characters may be trapped indefinitely.
  • In The Matrix Revolutions, third and last installment of The Matrix series, Neo gets trapped in a train station named Mobil Ave. He learns that the station (located "nowhere") is a sort of border world, passage between the "Matrix" and the "Machine" (the place where the Machines reside in the real) world. Mobil is an anagram of Limbo.
  • In the final episode of the BBC time travel/cop show Ashes to Ashes (Series 3, Episode 8), it is revealed that the world that Alex Drake awoke to after being shot, which Sam Tyler described and that other major characters inhabit, is a kind of Limbo, one seemingly specifically for members of the police force, who had died in violent or sudden ways.
  • In the indie game Limbo, a boy walks through a black and white world searching for his sister.
  • In Devil May Cry, Limbo is the name of a city that drags its victims into a demonic version of its human world counterpart.
  • In the BBC CW TV series The Vampire Diaries, a form of limbo called "The Other Side" is created by a powerful witch named Qetsiyah, creating it as a Purgatory for all supernatural (vampires, witches, werewolves, doppelgängers, hybrids, etc.) beings go in death, it prevents any supernatural being from reaching a form of Heaven called "Peace".
