No sign bar

With the research that I have found on the history of
Swansea it is proven to be a useful nerve information to help me find spaces
that have historical memories that I could use for my site specific project.
One of the areas that I am interested in to use as a
space for my project is the vault at the No sign bar. The No Sign Bar holds a
truly memorable history and culture of Swansea. Established in 1690, the No
Sign Bar is regarded as Swansea’s oldest pub.
The building it self, is listed as Grade II and is “the
first site of Swansea’s Chamber of Commerce in Swansea.” It has been licensed
throughout its historicl time as being a brew house, brewery, wine and spirits
merchants and Public House.
The 1930s was a golden era for the City of Swansea with
its musicians, writers and artists, the No Sign became a significant creative
bohemian hotspot. Most recaziable was the Welsh poet Dylan Thomas. Him and his creative
group became known as “the Kardomah gang” and would be frequently found in the
no sign bar in the drankan background.
With this understanding of the history of No sign bar I
saw a great possibility for two ideas that I could act apon, for the site
specific project. The first idea that jumped into my brain was inspired by an
image that I had created over the summer using appropriation the image was of
Dylan Thomas sitting in the front area of no sign, I could create this image as
a performance piece and it would be a commemoration of one of the greatest
poets that Swansea has to offer the world.
The idea I had was to do a projection in the vault
of no sign, this idea came from the research that I did on Swansea. I found
that the Castle in the center of town there underneath the eoans is a serious
of tunnels, theys caturcoms lead off to a number of diffrant locations within
the town. One of the tunnels leeds to the underneath of no sign, back 200 years
ago these tunnels were used to bring in legal substance such as tobacco and
alcohol. With that information I thought it could be possible to do a
projection in the vault of a possible re-enactment of the men bringing in the
crates I think this would be a great way to share knowledge and information
founded about one of Swansea's historical spots.

The question would be how I would get permission to work
within the walls of no sign. Well luckily enough owners that currently have
possession of the bar are family friends of mine and as a added plus I’m an ex
employee so I know the ins and outs of the space. If I was to ask them I'm
quite sure that they would allow me to use the space in reason to set up the
site-specific ideas within the vault.
